Online Workshop: Choral Music Theory Interactive Workshop: The Basics of Sight-singing
Date: Monday 13th September 2021
Time: 19:15 – 21:00 BST
On Monday 13th September Leeds Vocal Movement will be hosting our first online interactive workshop!
The workshop, run by our amazing conductor Caitlin Mayall, will be focused on music theory. We’ll be looking at both learning music theory and the practical application of the theory.
Anyone can attend: from complete beginners of music theory to more experienced singers who want a bit of a refresher on the basics!
We would like to invite both Leeds Vocal Movement members and members of the public to join us for the evening. As the workshop is via zoom we hope to connect with singers far and wide.
The structure of the evening:
The first half will be focused on understanding what’s on the page, including learning about:
- Time signature
- Key signature
- Treble, bass and tenor clefs
In the second half we will do some simple sight singing exercises together with a focus on understanding rhythm and melody.
The timetable for the evening:
7.15: workshop begins!
7.20: music theory, with resources to annotate sent in advance
8.10: applying music theory to sight-singing, including application of Kodály in pitch-finding
8.50: questions (feel free to duck out early if you don’t have questions)
9.00: workshop ends
Please sign up on Eventbrite here to let us know that you would like to attend and before the workshop you’ll receive further details of how to join in on the day as well as some resources to start having a look through!
Can’t wait to see you there!
